Another abstract piece from our new favourite artist Martin Hammond.
Oil on Hardboard
Martin Hammond A.R.C.A. is a versatile and prolific artist whose career has spanned almost half of the last century.
After graduating from Beckenham Art College and a brief stint in the army, Hammond studied at the Royal College of Art from 1953-58, where he was a contemporary of Frank Auerbach.
During these formative years, he attended the classes of David Bomberg, a famed breeding ground for a generation of talented young artists who sought to escape the rigidity of classical art study. The abstract expressionist remains a strong influence on the artist’s work.
As well his considerable output of paintings and ceramics, the artist has himself taught art at a number of schools, including Eltham College.
